What Is a Diesel Generator?

Diesel generators often referred to as DGs, are used in places where power is not available from the main power station or is used as an emergency light. This device is made by combining a diesel engine and a generator. So people call this DG set.

Inside is a diesel engine. Which provides power by burning diesel i.e. by means of burning. Now with this power, we can easily operate any rotating device.

This device is made by combining a diesel engine and a generator. So people call this DG set. Inside is a diesel engine. Which provides power by burning diesel i.e. by means of burning. Now with this power, we can easily operate any rotating device. So now with this Alternator is connected which gives us electricity through Alternator. So this is how a diesel generator works.

This device is commonly used in areas where emergency power is required, such as in a large hospital, in mining works, in an industrial factory, etc.

This machine uses an alternator to generate electricity. Which is connected to the diesel engine. Through this electricity is obtained in 3 phases.

Diesel Generator Parts and Their Function:

1. Diesel tank:

It is known by its name and is used to store diesel. They usually range from 500 liters to 1000 liters. Diesel tank capacity also depends on how long the backup is.

2. Fuel water separator:

Most of the time the diesel generator is kept in the open and it is possible for water to flow into its tank during the rainy season. That is why this fuel water separator is used to separate the water.

3. Fuel filter/oil filter:

Diesel often contains small particles of waste to prevent. A fuel filter/oil filter is used. Which allows it to be stopped in the front engine.

4. Actuator:

With the help of this, we get information about how much diesel to load wisely. This saves extra diesel costs. In many ways, it saves fuel as well as money.

5. Engine:

Its job is to provide mechanical power to the alternator. Due to this we alternately generate electricity. This engine has a rotating part that rotates the alternator.

6. Lubricant oil filter:

Lubricant oils are used to protect the generator from wear and tear. Assuming that waste accumulates in this oil, this lubricant filters the oil to remove it.

7. Primary lubricant oil pump:

Its only function is to pump lubricant oil to all the moving parts in the machine.

8. Cooling tank:

When the generator is turned on, the lubricant oil gets hot due to movement in it. Distilled water or coolant is used to keep this oil cool which this tank is used to store.

9. Radiator and fan:

If the generator is run for a long time, the distilled water also gets hot which also has to be cooled. For this, the help of a radiator and fan has to be taken.

10. Control Panel / Power Camp:

This panel is used to turn the DG set on and off. With the help of 1 display at the top of the panel, the output of ampere, frequency, and D G set can be seen.

11. Air filter:

If air is required along with diesel to run the DG set, it is taken from outside.

12. Turbocharger:

Its function is to inject filtered air into the engine and expel the carbon dioxide produced in the engine.

13. Silencer:

Plenty of noise only when the DG set is turned on. Silence has been used to stop this noise.

14. Coupling:

This is used to connect the engine and the alternator. When the engine rotates it also rotates as the alternator is connected with the help of couplings.

15. Alternator:

This is used to generate electricity and the alternator used in the DG set is not without a carbon brush.

16. Automatic voltage regulator:

When the voltage generated from the generator is uneven, if the voltage is more or less, it is set to the desired ratio.

17. Exciter:

The voltage is set according to the command received from the AVR.

18. Battery:

Inside the DG set is a 2 nos Battery of 12V which gives us 24 Voltage.

19. Cranking Motor / Starter Motor:

The Cranking Motor is used to provide starting torque when the DG set is turned on. Once the DG set is turned on, it automatically shuts off. Its function is to start the engine with the help of the battery.

20. Governor:

The rotor speed of the engine usually requires 1500 RPM to rotate the alternator. When the speed of the rotor of the engine increases or decreases, the governor is used to set it.

21. Flywheel:

When the rotor of the engine is rotating at 1500 RPM and the flywheel is used to prevent any sudden change.

22. Circuit breaker:

Even if by mistake there is any short circuit in the DG set or any kind of electrical fault, this saves a lot of damage inside the machine by tripping it.
