Yellow Light on Garage Door Sensor | Here’s How to Fix It

Yellow Light on Garage Door Sensor

You are leaving with the garage door closed, and suddenly, the garage door will not close, and a yellow light appears on the garage door sensor. Several problems can cause the yellow light on the garage door sensor to come on. The process of fixing it is easy and does not take much time to fix.

Garage door experts always say to remember that all security sensors on the market come with a light. The sending sensor will have a yellow light, and the receiving sensor will have a green light.

Fix the Yellow Light on the Garage Door Sensor:

Your garage door is not close until you fix the yellow light on the sensor. Whenever a yellow light appears on the door sensor, those security reverse sensors are out of alignment. To fix this, you must first clean the sensor’s lens and install the sensors properly, as they are lined up together perfectly.

The sensor is always located at the bottom of the garage door, a few inches off the ground. There is a sensor near the garage door. This sensor has a “photo-eye” system. Thereby it shoots an invisible infrared beam out the other side of the garage door.

These sensors receive a message when you want to close the garage door with the remote control. Their main purpose is to prevent the garage door from being closed by anything. Always remember that the garage door will open only when the invisible infrared beam running on the garage door is good or fine. Because sometimes these sensors get damaged, they also have problems.

The yellow sensor light turns on whenever that is a problem with the sensor on the garage door. Because of this, there is such a problem that the garage door does not close. After this, a flashing light also flashes from the overhead control box. This indicates that the yellow sensor light on the garage door is blinking, and there is a problem with the sensor.

First, Clean the Lens:

Clean the Lens

Whenever there is a yellow light on the sensor of the garage door, our attention is drawn to the dirty lens. Sometimes a dirty lens can cause a problem with a garage door sensor. The sensors are mounted close to the ground under the door, exposing them to dirt. That’s why the lens always has to be cleaned.

To clean the lens, you need a cloth or paper so that you can easily clean the lens. You can use a wet cloth or paper to clean the lens. Or you can also use a mild cleaner to clean the lens. But keep in mind that the lens should not be completely wet. You have to clean the sensors on both sides of the door properly. Cleaning the lens may also solve the problem.

Realign Sensors:

Realign Sensors

Whenever you will see a yellow light on the garage door sensor and the door will not close. The big problem is in the sensors. So you can lose the bracket that holds the sensor, and you can use a screwdriver. After loosening this bracket, you can position it as you wish.

Put the sensor in the correct position and re-lock the sensor in the same position. You can loosen and tighten the sensor without a screwdriver, and you are also using your hands. In all models, there is only one wing nut that holds the sensor in place. You must loosen and tighten this wing nut using your hands to get the sensor lined up perfectly. Then try closing the garage door.

Connect or Replace the Sensor Wires Properly:

Replace the Sensor Wires Properly

If the problem persists even after reattaching the sensor or cleaning the lens, you will need to check the sensor wires. It is to check the wiring of the sensor. The yellow light on the sensor at the garage door still flashes because the wire at the sensor at the garage door is broken or damaged. So check all the wires and connect them properly.

The wires in garage door sensors wear out or break over time. Due to this, the garage door does not close, and there is a lack of arrangement. If you see a broken or damaged sensor wire, it should be replaced. If it works well for you, change the strings, and you have to take the help of a professional technician. Because a professional technician has all that stuff and also has security, he will easily replace all the wires. Dealing with electrical cords can be dangerous.

Move Items Out of the Way of the Garage Door:

If the garage door sensor is not working after several attempts and the yellow light on the sensor is still flashing, one cause could be an object in the way. This object is a toolbox or bookshelf placed near the door sensor, by the way. What appears outside the road is not what it is; it is inside the road.

So once check all the things coming in the way of the door and remove them from the way. Keep in mind that there should be nothing within one foot near the sensor; that place should be clean. Now try to close the door. Maybe now the problem will be solved.

Try Replacing the Old Sensor:

Try Replacing the Old Sensor

If you are failing even after all the efforts, then check the sensor once. It is possible that the sensor itself is bad, and a new sensor may need to be installed. The sensor may be damaged due to bad weather or excessive use. So you have to replace the old sensor with a new sensor.

You will have to buy a new sensor from an electrical shop or the market. We can also order sensors from online services like Amazon or Flipkart. You will need to replace the old sensor with a new sensor.

To set up a new sensor  :

Installation of Door Track-

  • Slide the bracket of the first sensor onto the edge of the door.
  • That has to be snapped into place as the sensor flash is on the side of the bracket.
  • Then you have to slide the carriage bolt into the slot on each sensor.
  • Then the sensor is to be placed in the bracket and attached to the wing nut by inserting a bolt.
  • In this, you have to keep in mind that the lenses of both the sensors should be towards each other.
  • Have to check that the sensor bracket does not obstruct the lens.

Installing Door Sensors Without Pre-Wiring-

  • You will need to run a wire from both sensors to the garage door opener, And with the help of a stapler, the wire has to be attached to the wall.
  • The wires must be set with an insulation strip of 11 mm, and now all the wires have to be separated. The white and black wires have to be twisted together separately.
  • Plug the white leads into the white terminals on the sensor terminals on the garage door. Plug the white and black wires into the gray terminals.
  • You will need to use a screwdriver to insert the wires into all of the terminals.

Pre-Wired Installation of the Garage Door Sensor-

  • First, check if the wire can reach the wall, and then the safety reversing sensor wire has to be cut.
  • The wires have to be set with an insulation strip of 11 mm.
  • Now all the wires have to be separated. After this, you have to see that there is the same color wire for both sensors.
  • The pre-installed wires are to be connected to the sensor with the help of a screwdriver with nuts.
  • Next, strip 11mm of insulation to the reverse security sensor on the garage door with the wire you selected earlier, and the wire of the same color has to be twisted together.
  • Plug the white leads into the white terminals on the sensor terminals on the garage door. Plug the white and black wires into the gray terminals.
