Ring Battery Not Charging | Here’s How to Fix It!

Ring Battery Not Charging

I have had a ring doorbell for a long time, and it serves me the best. He has helped keep my delivery safe from porch pirates by letting me talk to the deliveryman and tell me where to keep my incoming parcels, so they do not cling to passersby.

I noticed that my Ringdor Bell’s battery was low, so I thought it was time to charge it. I hooked it up and left it to charge. When I checked on him, however, I noticed that he was not being charged. This will not work easily, so I started doing research to find out what was wrong and how I could fix it. While researching, I have compiled a complete list of possible causes and troubleshooting tips for others—those who can find themselves in my situation.

If your Ring Battery is Not Charging, check that your WiFi connection is strong and there are no problems with the charger or charging cable. Check the circuit breaker box (MCB Box) in your home to see if the breaker has tripped. If the problem persists, the battery of your ring doorbell may be damaged and needs to be replaced.

I also talked about refreshing the battery status of the Ring app in today’s article, checking the circuit breaker to see if it has tripped, and long-term improvement in quality of life, such as ensuring optimum temperature.

Conclusion of Ring Battery Not Charging:

Refresh the Ring App Battery Status:

Refresh the Ring App Battery Status

You may find that while charging the device, the Ring app on your phone shows that the battery is depleted, which creates a false impression that your ring does not charge the battery. In such a situation, you just ring the doorbell once or twice. This will refresh the app, and the battery will be restored to its original state.

Check Your Wi-Fi Connection To See If It Is Connected To Your Ring Doorbell:

Check Your Wi-Fi Connection To See If It is Connected To Your Ring Doorbell

While the live view of your ring doorbell doesn’t work, one important thing I learned is that the ring doorbell is dependent on WiFi. So if there is a problem with your wifi connection, here, too, the ring app will not show the correct battery status.

To fix this problem, you should try restarting your router, moving it a little closer to the device, and then resetting the connection to your ring doorbell. Another problem with a weak signal is that your ring doorbell will constantly search for the signal. This will drain your battery faster, making you feel like the device is not charging.

If the doorbell in your home is not charged via USB. So you need to check if your USB cable is working properly. To do this, use a cable to charge another device. If it still doesn’t work, replace your USB cable.

Ensure That the Ring Charger is Working:

Any charger you use should have enough power to charge your smart doorbell battery. The 2.1 A charger will fully charge the battery in approximately 5 to 6 hours.

But if you use a low-power charger to charge your battery, it may take a long time to charge, and the battery may not even fully charge. In such a case, you must replace your charger or charge it with an alternative device like a computer or power bank.

Check if the Battery is Damaged on Your Ring Doorbell:

It may also be that your battery’s ability to hold a charge is reduced. Ring batteries last anywhere from 6 to 12 months, depending on the frequency of use.

Even if these batteries are kept at high temperatures (>100°F), they will deteriorate rapidly. This will reduce the battery life of the doorbell. Also, the thing about lithium-ion batteries used in doorbells is that they should not be completely discharged. Check that you do not allow the battery to drain completely if you want to save battery life.

Check if a Circuit Breaker Has Tripped:

Check if a Circuit Breaker Has Tripped

If you are also using a hardwired ring doorbell, the battery should charge on its own. Therefore, if the ring app keeps showing that the battery is not close to being fully charged, it may indicate a problem in the circuitry of your home.

If the battery power shown in the app is not adequate, the power supplied may be insufficient to charge your ring doorbell battery. Therefore, you need to make sure that your circuit breaker device is in proper condition and that no tripping has taken place. If a breaker has recently tripped, it may be that your doorbell’s battery is not charging.

Check the Voltage From Your Doorbell Transformer:

Check the Voltage From Your Doorbell Transformer

If the circuit breaker is working properly, you need to check the voltage supplied by your transformer. Before doing this, you must ensure that the wiring is done properly. Once you have checked this, you will need to check the voltage of your transformer. If it is less than 16V, this may be the reason your device’s battery is not charging properly. In such a case, you should consider replacing your transformer.

Even if your transformer works properly, your doorbell may be at a lower voltage than your transformer. This may be due to a very long wired connection between your transformer and your ring device.

This can lead to a decrease in voltage compared to the transformer on your ring device. Thus, you may need to get a better transformer with more power output or replace the wiring in your home. If you supply too much voltage, your ring doorbell can blow your transformer.

Ring Doorbell Still Not Charging? Troubleshooting Tips:

Ensure that the Temperature is Optimal:

Unfortunately, as I have learned strictly, these devices do not work very well in the cold. As the temperature decreases, the battery’s capacity decreases, increasing the difficulty of charging the device. During the winter, I experienced many problems with the battery life of the device, which is why I decided to do some research. The ring camera does not turn on because the ring battery is not charged, and that’s why I went to this length to solve the problem.

I contacted Ring Customer Support for more details, and they said that at 36°F, the battery does not charge efficiently. As a result, the battery has to be charged more often.

At 32°F, the battery does not charge at all, even if the device has hardware. At -5°F, the battery may stop working at once, making the device useless. What we recommend to do in this situation is to bring the device inside at a cold temperature and always keep it fully charged by bringing the device inside, charging it, and putting it back on a daily basis whenever the temperature drops. This is the only solution to this problem, despite the inconvenience.

Your Ring Doorbell May Be Faulty:

Even after trying all of the troubleshooting tips outlined above, your doorbell’s battery is still not charging. In this case, you should contact Ring Customer Support, who will help you with a thorough analysis of the problem. I was also looking for alternatives to the ring doorbell, as my ring doorbell gave me a fair share of it, such as not ringing, delaying, or connecting to Wi-Fi. You should also be aware that having a defective device can cause problems in charging the device.

The ring offers a one-year warranty for all their smart doorbells, allowing customers to replace or repair their defective devices for free. However, since it is entirely up to the company to help you fix or replace your device, there is no guarantee that your problem will be solved this way.

Ring doorbell won’t charge:

If your ring doorbell does not charge, check that there is no problem with the app not being updated. Also, check that the USB cable and charger are working. If so, your battery may be damaged and may need to be replaced. If you have hard-wired your doorbell, check that the breaker trip has not occurred.
