Why is it important to know the MCB type?
Before knowing MCB, it is also necessary to know its full name
MCB’s full name is Miniature Circuit Breaker.
MCB is the most widely used circuit breaker. This is used to avoid short circuits and to protect the equipment. But our equipment is not of many types, that is why MCB has also been sold in different parts.

Types of MCB:
MCBs are divided into 5 types based on the trip.
Sr.No | Types of MCB |
1. | B type MCB |
2. | C type MCB |
3. | D type MCB |
4. | K type MCB |
5. | Z type MCB |
Let us now understand the function of MCB mentioned above and its use.
1. B type MCB:
This type of MCB is most commonly used in domestic use. In B type MCB, if 3 to 5 times the current of its capacity is passed, it will trip within 0.04 seconds to 13 seconds.
2. C type MCB:
This type of MCB is the most used MCB in the market. It is used in the company and in homes. This type of MCB was specially made for induction motors. In C type MCB, if 5 to 10 times the current of its capacity is passed, it trips within 0.04 seconds to 5 seconds.
3.D type MCB:
This type of MCB is used in places where the current is more or less the same. The D-type MCB is perfect for this type of machine as the welding machine is running slowly. In a D-type MCB, if 10 to 20 times the current of its capacity has passed, it will trip within 0.04 seconds to 3 seconds.
4. K type of MCB:
That type of MCB is a very sensitive type of MCB. This trip takes place in a very short time. In a K-type MCB, if 8 to 12 times the current of its capacity has passed, it will trip within 0.01 seconds. This means it travels in 1 millisecond.
5. Z type MCB:
MCBs of type Z MCB are highly sensitive. Because this trip takes place in a very short time. At the same time, the equipment is protected by sensing small faults. In Z-type MCB if 2 to 3 times the current of its capacity is passed then it trips within 0.01 seconds.
Z Type and K Type can never be used in our home or motor. Such MCBs are used in places where space is very sensitive and equipment is likely to be damaged.

Loss of incorrect type MCB implantation:
We can easily understand this. If we install type MCB in the house, if there is any kind of fault in the house, the equipment will be damaged due to current overload but the MCB will not trip. Assume that if you have to use MCB only for household use then you should insist on using type B or C type only.
